Overview

This is an open ended "everyone must pick something interesting to do and do it" kind of project. Part of the task is to pick a project, as well as to do the work and present it.

The project must be related to computer animation, but I am willing to take a "broad view" of what that means.

Some Ground Rules:

  1. You may work in any size group you like. If you choose a group of more than 2 people, you must describe the division of labor in your project proposal.
  2. You must produce a web page documenting the final project. You must include any source code produced as well as executables.
  3. Documentation matters. Producing code or tools that others may use after this semester will be valued.
  4. You cannot "just" produce an animation. However, you might choose to focus your project around a production, and build tools to support this production.
  5. Your work must be at the edge of the state of the art. That's not to say that you need to make a research breakthough, but you might want to implement a recent one.
  6. All projects must be approved by the instructor.

Project Ideas

A list of project ideas is here.

Deadlines and Checkpoints

April 13 - Letter of intent - You must send email to the instruction saying who you will be working with. You should also schedule a meeting with the instructor to discuss project ideas.

April 18 - Project Meetings- Each group must meet with the instructor on or before April 18th, in order to meet the next deadline.

April 20 - Project Proposal - Each group must submit a 1-2 page project proposal describing what the project will be. The format is described here. The proposal should describe what you will try to do, how you will try to do it, and a description of what the "deliverables" for the project should be. This should be submitted by email to the instructor.

April 27 - Progress Report - Each group must send email to the instructor describing the status of their project.

May 2 - In Class Progress Report - Each group will be asked to describe their project, and its status in class.

May 9 - Schedule - Each group will arrange a schedule for turning in their deliverables, and to schedule a final meeting to discuss the project.

May 11 - (approx) - We will have some amount of group show-and-tell.

May 15 - Last day to submit deliverables.

May 18 - Final meetings must be scheduled before this date.
