The 559 Midterm Exam will be held in class (9:30 am) on Thursday, November 2nd.

It will be a closed-book, closed-notes exam covering all of the material covered in the course so far. It will not ask you questions about the programming tools (e.g. FlTk or OpenGL).

You will not need a calculator. We would prefer that you work in pencil since we would like you to place all of your answers in the spaces provided.

There will be no long essays. There will be many short answer types of questions.

All material discussed in lecture and readings is fair game. There is an emphasis on the subjects that I consider to be important (which are the ones that I discuss in class). You might refer to the calendar to remind yourself.

Things we talked about:

  • Basics of visual perception
  • Types of graphical displays
  • Sampling and Image Processing basics
  • Representation and quantization of intensity
  • Color perception
  • Color models for graphics
  • Compositing
  • Special Effects and Matte generation
  • Raster algorithms
  • Graphics Toolkits
  • Co-ordinate systems
  • Transformations in 2D
  • Perception of 3D objects
  • Projection and Viewing of 3D objects onto 2D displays
