Cache Considerations for Programmers of Multiprocessors

Mark D Hill and James R Larus
1989

Although caches in computers are invisible to programmers, the significantly affect programs’ performance. This is particularly true for multiprocessors. This paper presents results from recent computer architecture research about the performance of parallel programs and discuss their implications for programmers who may know little or nothing about caches.
