About the HTCondor Web Site

The HTCondor web site requires users to enter their name, organization, and email address in order to download the HTCondor software. These records are kept as evidence that downloaders have accepted the terms of the HTCondor software license. We use these records internally for research purposes and may periodically publish summary statistics, such as the total number of downloaders. Furthermore, we may periodically use the records in order to contact licensees regarding the software. However, we will not reveal these records to the public or to any third party for any commercial purpose.

The HTCondor web site does not record any information about users that do not download the HTCondor software.

About the HTCondor Software

The HTCondor software periodically sends short messages to the HTCondor developers at the University of Wisconsin, reporting totals of machines and jobs in each running HTCondor system. An example of such a message is given below.

We use these collected reports to publish summary figures and tables, such as the total of HTCondor systems worldwide, or the geographic distribution of HTCondor systems. This information helps us understand the scale and composition of HTCondor in the real world and improve the software accordingly.

We will not use these reports to publically identify any HTCondor system or user without permission. The HTCondor software does not collect or report any personal information about individual users.

We hope that you will contribute to the development of HTCondor through this reporting feature. However, you are free to disable it at any time by placing the following into the condor_config file on your central manager machine: 

  CONDOR_DEVELOPERS = NONE
  CONDOR_DEVELOPERS_COLLECTOR = NONE
