Our final project was to create a system that used non-photorealistic rendering to create scenes that contained high dynamic range.

We experimented with different NPR effects to express high-dynamic range in a scene where the viewer travels down a river as day and night cycle.

Here are some screenshots of our results:

 

 

 

 

 

 

We used two-toned shading and silhouette rendering to create our NPR scene. Note the contrast between the light and dark tones of the trees from day to night. The light tone at night is darker than the dark tone at day.

We also used some of OpenGL’s blending and other capabilities to create other effects. Here’s a shot of the moon rising:
