Summary: This paper discussed how the fundamental principals of animation, originally developed by Disney, can be applied to computer animation to form more interesting and pleasing works. Problem: In the most general sense the problem could be considered to be, how can animators make better computer animation? Method: In order to describe a better process for creating computer animation, the paper discusses each of the principals of animation that were developed for traditional animation and why these principals apply to computer generated animation. Special focus is given to existing examples of these principals in computer animation. Key Ideas: The most important take away from this paper is that the traditional principals of animation are applicable to computer animation and their application can create far more pleasing results. Contributions: The principals themselves already existed before this paper, but it had not been emphasized that computer animation is as much an art as traditional animation and as such can benefit from the application of these principals. Computer animators who do not have a traditional animation background would greatly benefit from reading this paper. Questions: I am curious to know if a more precise description of Appeal has been given in some other reference. I understood the one presented in this paper, but it imparted me with very little useful information on how to make my characters appealing.
