Dear Colleague,
As Guest Editors, we cordially invite you to submit a manuscript for consideration and possible publication in a Special Issue on “Advances on Data-driven Engineering" to be published in the International Journal of General Systems (https://www.tandfonline.com/toc/ggen20/current), ISSN 0308-1079, (Scopus citescore index 2020 = 2.080, Q2).

More recently, enhancements in computational capabilities, innovations in observation and measurement devices (e.g., ICT devices) have led undoubtedly to increased availability of different types of data, paving the way to stunning scenarios for the application of data-driven modeling techniques. The latter are revolutionizing the modeling, prediction, and control of complex systems. Fresh advances in scientific computing witness how data-driven methods can be applied to a diverse range of complex systems. Applications of artificial intelligence-based systems play a pivotal role at the crossroads of almost all fields of computer science. Recent advances in big data generation and management have created an avenue for decision-makers to utilize these overwhelming volumes of data for various purposes and analyses.

This special issue looks at unveiling new trends of developing data-driven application systems that seek to adapt computational algorithms and techniques in many application domains, including software systems, cyber security, human activity recognition, and behavioral modeling. Original research and review work with models and build data-driven applications using computational algorithms are particularly sought after. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Big data generation and management
- Data-driven modeling techniques
- Data-Driven Computing and Machine Learning
- Deep learning-based and neural-based networks and algorithms
- Data-driven approaches for Digital twins
- Urbanization of data-driven applications
- Data models for IA techniques and Machine Learning

Selected papers from the MEDI2021 Full accepted papers will be invited to submit a thoroughly revised version with evidence for a substantial amount of new information (At least 30%). In addition, we welcome submissions presenting original research that should include scientifically sound experiments. However, surveys, (Systematic) Literature Reviews or Mapping Studies are out of the scope of the special issue and will be desk-rejected.

*** Important Dates

*      December 15, 2021: Submission deadline
*      February 15, 2022: Notification of the first-round review
*      March 15, 2022: Revised submission due
*      May 15, 2022:  Final notice of acceptance/reject

The expected publication time of the special issue will be around August 2022.
