Assistant/Associate Professor on Biostatistical Data Science

The Division of Biostatistics in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC) is recruiting to fill a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor, with preference for a candidate that has an established interest in the field of Data Science. We seek someone with a strong academic record to join our Biostatistics Division of over 20 faculty and to contribute to our active research and educational programs. Central to the mission of the Division are the development of novel statistical methods, collaboration with other research groups in our Department of Preventive Medicine, and education of the next generation of biostatisticians. We prefer someone that is interested in both developing novel data science techniques and in leading data analyses as part of a collaborative team, although those with primary focus in either methods development or collaborative research will also be considered.

We seek an applicant with a demonstrated interest in Data Science, including, but not limited to, statistical methods, deep learning and/or applications related to ‘big data’ that arise in genetic epidemiology, environmental epidemiology, public health, and/or clinical trials. The Biostatistics Division has established strength and many collaborative relationships with other investigators in the Department of Preventive Medicine and in the Keck School of Medicine. Areas of current research strength include integrative genomics, environmental risk factors, and gene-environment interactions, including both statistical methods development and applications to a wide range of traits (cancer, asthma, diabetes, and cardiovascular outcomes). In addition to developing and applying methods to the analysis of complex traits, faculty in our Division also direct statistical cores as parts of large Centers, including the Norris Cancer Center, Children’s Oncology Group, Environmental Health Center, and Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Our Division administers Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Biostatistics and Epidemiology, and a new M.S. in Public Health Data Science. The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in teaching activities.

The Department of Preventive Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine includes over 100 faculty members in six Divisions and consistently ranks as the top funded public health-related department within a U.S. medical school.
