PHD FELLOWSHIP ON LARGE-SCALE PROCESSING OF DYNAMIC GRAPHS AT THE NORWEGIAN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (NTNU) PROJECT DESCRIPTION The Department of Computer Science at NTNU has a vacancy for a PhD-position in large-scale processing of dynamic graphs. The position is funded by SFI NorwAI (https://www.ntnu.edu/norwai), the new 8-year research-based innovation Center for AI Innovation. Here, we are joining forces with 15 partners from industry, universities and research institutes. Research areas cover competences that the Norwegian industry needs to develop cutting-edge theories, methods and technology, for efficient, effective and responsible exploitation of data-driven AI in innovative industrial solutions. For many important applications, data is presented as graphs, with dynamic relationships between nodes. Examples include graphs representing the power grid, financial transaction relationships, social networks, and transportation networks. The nodes in the graphs can also have attached dynamic data, for example time series, adding further challenges. The PhD student will develop techniques (algorithms and frameworks) for efficient processing of dynamic graphs, and the research outcome is expected to produce high-quality publications in top database/data mining venues. The main supervisor will be Professor Kjetil Nørvåg. Relevant background: A solid knowledge of algorithms, database systenms, or data mining. A research-oriented master thesis within one of these or related areas are expected. Good programming skills are required. An ability/desire to publish in top academic conferences (VLDB, SIGMOD, ICDE, KDD, ICDM, CIKM, etc.) is essential. Since Trondheim is a bilingual city where almost everybody speaks and understands English fluently, candidates need not be afraid of a language barrier.
