CALL FOR PAPERS
PIE+Q 2021
3rd International Workshop on Processing Information Ethically: a plus for data Quality
In conjunction with EDBT/ICDT 2021

23 March, 2021, Nicosia, Cyprus
http://pie.dia.uniroma3.it

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Digital transformation comes with ethical concerns about how flexible information systems can be used and misused, posing new challenges for researchers and practitioners across the whole spectrum of information systems engineering. Similarly, ethics-related aspects are becoming prominent in the data management community, where traditional processes for searching, querying, or analyzing data hardly pay any specific attention to the social problems their outcomes could bring about. These demands are broadly reflected into codes of ethics and in legally binding regulations.
The 3rd International Workshop on "Processing Information Ethically: a plus for data Quality" (PIE+Q) will acknowledge the need for the design of responsible Information Systems with a Data Quality perspective. PIE+Q 2021 will encourage papers on the conceptual and technological approaches for dealing with ethical issues in data quality and of all data management activities, including source selection, knowledge extraction, data integration and analysis.

PIE+Q will be co-located with EDBT/ICDT 2021 (https://edbticdt2021.cs.ucy.ac.cy), to be hosted in Nicosia, Cyprus. The EDBT/ICDT 2021 Organizing Committee is following closely the current COVID-19 situation. At this time, the conference is planned to take place as scheduled. The committee will continue monitoring conditions and will provide updates early enough for authors and prospective participants. The committee suggests to not make any conclusive traveling arrangements until final decisions are reached.

TOPICS AND THEMES
The workshop encourages multidisciplinary submissions on, but not limited to:
* provenance and privacy
* algorithmic fairness
* nondiscriminatory knowledge extraction

Submissions will go through a single-blind review process, and evaluated on the basis of originality, relevance, quality, and technical contribution. Regular papers presenting original work are solicited. Moreover, we also welcome short papers containing description of results already published, or visionary discussion of new directions of research.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
