The Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program at the Ford School of Public Policy, jointly with the Michigan Institute of Data Science and Department of Computer Science at the University of Michigan, invites applications for aÊpostdoctoralÊ fellow focused on curriculum development in data equity, justice, and policy. The fellow, who should hold a PhD in computer science, data science, or a related field, will receive formal training in the social, ethical, and policy dimensions of data and technology and help lead the reshaping the University of MichiganÕs undergraduate computer science curriculum with justice and equity concerns at its core. Anticipated start date is January 2021, for a one-year appointment with renewal for a second year likely but contingent on performance and funding availability.ÊThe fellow can begin the position remotely.

It is supervised by Professors Shobita Parthasarathy and H.V. Jagadish. The fellow will then help lead the effort to rethink University of MichiganÕs undergraduate computer science curriculum. If the fellow is renewed for a second year, they will have the opportunity to teach a project-based course related to data equity, justice, and policy, developed in consultation with faculty advisors and DCTP. The position will prepare the fellow for a growing number of positions in data equity, ethical and responsible AI, and critical data studies across academia, industry, and government.
