Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Biomedical Informatics, University of Texas at Austin

We are searching for a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow with training and interest in biomedical informatics and data science to solve problems in health care. This is an interdisciplinary research fellowship working jointly with the School of Information and the Departments of Population Health and Neurology at Dell Medical School.

This position will last two years from the date of hire. Candidates should be willing to relocate to Austin when safe to do so with respect to pandemic conditions. The position is restricted to candidates authorized to work in the US.

- Develop, implement, and perform natural language processing (NLP) on free-text medical notes and reports to enhance clinical decisions and clinical decision support systems
- Mine health care data to enhance sharing of information across electronic health records (EHRs) and to support communication between care teams
- Mine health care data for digital phenotype definitions of clinical conditions and evidence-based care or risk prediction
- Apply standard terminologies and ontologies for representing patient data (clinical and social determinants of health)
- Prepare and disseminate research findings. Prepare and submit manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals, preparing presentations and posters for research symposia

Required Qualifications
PhD in Biomedical Informatics, computer science, information and data science or related field received within the past 3 years. Familiarity with health care data. Experience of working in interdisciplinary teams. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
