There is a funded PhD position in the area of Federated Data Science at Concordia Data Systems (CoDS) lab, Montreal, Canada. Montreal is one of the best cities in Canada for its livability. The city has the highest university students per capita in North America and is ranked as the best city to study abroad. The position starts in September 2020 or January 2021 for four years.
 
At CoDS, we have a long-term vision to develop a scalable and easy-to-use federated data science platform with a focus on
1. a natural language platform for querying RDF Graphs,
2. an automatic annotation platform for data science datasets,
3. a federated learning platform for linked data and knowledge graphs, and
4. data science versioning control with explanation and data bias detection methods.

Our platform aims to leverage Cloud resources and parallel architectures to provide a collaborative workspace, in which data scientists can work together and scale up their data science workloads.  
 
We are looking for students who are willing to publish at top tier conferences, such as SIGMD, VLDB, and ICDE, and developing systems of high-impact. The qualifications are: 
1. excellent skills in programming, 
2. M.Sc. in computer science or a related field,
3. experience in Databases, Parallel / Distributed Systems, or Machine learning, and 
4. excellent written and oral communication skills (English).
