A postdoctoral position is available at the Center for Data-intensive Systems (Daisy), Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University (AAU), Denmark. The position is available immediately with a flexible starting date within the next couple of months. The position is initially for one year and can be extended up to a total of 3 years after mutual agreement.

Objective and research project:
The post doc will be part of the interdisciplinary SEMIOTIC project, in collaboration with world-leading communication technology researchers.
The objective of SEMIOTIC is to orchestrate the communication and the data analytics for
Internet of-Things (IoT) into a meaningfully connected system. Drawing an analogy from semiotics, as a
science that studies meaning and communication, here meaningful reflects the fact that SEMIOTIC
will optimize the interplay between data communication and data analytics processing based on the
value and significance that a specific portion of data has for its end usage, including data accuracy requirements.

The post doc project will be dedicated to developing models capturing data, queries, and accuracy requirements for IoT data analytics,
along with query processing algorithms for distributed, accuracy-aware analytics queries,
and techniques for deriving model parameters and propagating updates, as well as their
adaptation through co-design with the communication system.
Finally, the models, algorithms, and
techniques should be able to learn from the past behaviour of the overall system and thus continuously
adapt and improve.

Requirements:
- PhD in computer science
- excellent scientific background and publication record
- demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team
- excellent communication skills in English, oral as well as written
- good programming skills

Advanced experience in at least two of the following areas:
- On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP)
- data analytics
- distributed data management
- data stream processing
- approximate data management
- machine learning

Responsibilities:
- perform excellent scientific research
- develop research prototypes and conduct experiments
- publish in leading international conferences and journals
- participate in activities of the group and the department

Employment:
The position is initially available for one year with the possibility of extension based on mutual agreement. The annual salary is approximately DKK 450.000 (ca.
