Highly motivated candidates are sought for two PhD positions in the School of Information Sciences in University of Pittsburgh. The positions are in the areas of Data Privacy, Privacy-preserving Social Networks, Privacy-aware Cloud Computing and Big Data systems including Map Reduce/Hadoop and NoSQL databases.
Funding for these positions is expected to be in the form of research and/or teaching assistantships.


 Desired qualifications:

 - Preferably an MS in CS or related areas.
 - Strong programming skills
 - Strong mathematical background
 - An impressive academic record and/or substantial prior research experience.
 - Experience/interest on one or more of the following areas
         -Data Privacy 
         -Privacy-preserving online social networks
         -Cloud Resource allocation, cost-optimized resource provisioning and management techniques
         -Big Data systems such as Map Reduce/Hadoop, NoSQL databases
         -Large scale Distributed and Networked Systems including geographically distributed systems


The PhD students selected will work as part of LERSAIS (http://www.sis.pitt.edu/~lersais/) which is a NSA designated Academic Center of Information Assurance Education and Research (CAE-R).
