============================================================================ CALL FOR PARTICIPATION DBRank 2012 in conj. with VLDB 2012 Sixth International Workshop on Ranking in Databases Workshop date: Aug 27, 2012 VLDB 2012 venue: Instanbul, Hilton Hotel URL: http://chenwsdb.fulton.ad.asu.edu/DBRank2012/ ============================================================================ In recent years, a large number of emerging applications require exploratory querying over data, such as relational, XML, text, multimedia and graph data. Users wish to search bibliographic databases, product catalogs, scientific information systems, biological databases, social networks and so forth. In all these emerging ad-hoc search and retrieval applications, top-k queries and query result ranking are gaining increasing importance. The user would be overwhelmed by too many unranked results. Furthermore, the sheer amount of data makes it almost impossible to process queries in the traditional compute-then-sort approach. Hence, ranking comes as a great tool for soliciting user preferences and data exploration. The sixth International Workshop on Ranking in Databases (DBRank 2012) is held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 27th August, 2012, in conjunction with VLDB 2012 conference, and aims to encourage researchers from both academia and industry communities to discuss the opportunities and challenges in ranking related issues in database applications, and to present the key issues and novel techniques in this area.
