Postdoc Position in Social Networks/Media and Personalization

The Department of Computer Science of the University of British Columbia, Vancouver BC has an opening for a postdoctoral position. The focal research area of this position will be Social Networks/Media and Personalization, as part of research led by Laks V.S. Lakshmanan, and supported by grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and a number of industries. The research spans a number of topics related to social networks and social media including search and recommendations, extracting information and business and other intelleigence from social networks/media, analytics on social networks/media, and management, warehousing and mining of social network/media data.

The position is aimed at young researchers with an excellent publication record and a strong drive. Candidates with expertise in both theoretical and systems aspects of one or more of the above areas would be given preference. A PhD in Computer Science or a related field is required or should be expected soon. The opening is available from October 2011 for a year and is subject to renewal for an additional year subject to performance and availability of funding. In addition to interacting with faculty, the candidate will have the opprtunity to work with a dynamic group of grad students and postdocs who are working on many interesting problems in the areas above in the Data Management and Mining Lab.
