Microsoft Office
Documents are opening in "Protected View"; how can I disable that?
This is a "security feature" with Microsoft Office 2010; the intention is to disable potentially harmful features that could allow the document to cause one of the Office programs to cause damage to your computer.
Because we use documents generated from a variety of sources, you may find it is necessary to disable "Protected View" regularly within Microsoft Office. Here's where the setting for the Office 2010 Protected View feature is controlled:
- Go to the
File tab, then select =Options- (bottom of the left-hand column)
- You should get an Options pop-up window--click on
Trust Center, again at the bottom of the left column
- Click on
Trust Center Settings
- You will see a Trust Center pop-up window. Click on
Protected View in the left column
- Here you have a number of options where you can deselect Protected View. If you are going to disable any settings, we recommend starting with just
files originating from the Internet and only disabling any other options at a later time.
- Click OK to close the pop-up windows
You should no longer see "Protected View" when opening files that "originated from the internet" or other locations you specified.
