Mozilla Thunderbird Mail

The CSL's officially supported E-mail client is Mozilla Thunderbird which has been installed on all supported UNIX and Windows 2000 workstations. We recommend you also use the companion Mozilla firefox web browser and discontinue the use of the old mozilla suite (or other web browsers and email readers) entirely. Running mozilla at the same time as firefox or thunderbird may cause problems.

Thunderbird has been added to /s/std/bin and can be started on the command line with:

% thunderbird

It has also been added to the default UNIX dot files. You can run the newdots program to get new UNIX default dot files, but you will lose any customizations you've made to these files. Alternatively, if you are comfortable editting your dot files, you can update your window manager and/or command line aliases to remove mozilla and add thunderbird and firefox.

For Windows 2000 users, you should find both Mozilla Thunderbird and Mozilla Firefox in your Start Menu.

Pine

Pine is an acceptable text based E-mail and news reader. It may be started from the command line with:
% pine
