Computer Science Network Resources
The CSL maintains the department network which is used by all Instructional, Reserach, and Computer Science Infrastructure hosts.
Network Architecture
The department network architecture is not publically posted. The internal network consists primarily of Cisco switches with Gigabit Ethernet trunks between swtiches. Our external links connect to campus via 10G ethernet. If you have questions about the network architecture related to your research, mail
lab@cs.wisc.edu requesting the information.
Multicast Support
Multicast is enabled on our instructional and office networks. The Computer Science networks run PIM-SM, with a Rendevous point on the DOIT campus network. All questions regarding multicast including requests for dedicated group addresses should be directed to
lab@cs.wisc.edu. You can also find information in the
IPMulticastHowTo.
Unsupported Network
The CSL maintains a restricted network for hosts not supported by the CS department, you can find more information at
UnsupportedNetworkFAQs.
Authenticated Network
The CSL maintains a network, which provided resources only after being authenticated to a central server. You can find more information at
