					<para>
    Five hundred sixty-five measurements of 99 binary star systems are
    presented, obtained during 1984-1986 by means of speckle
    interferometry at the 1.8 m Perkins telescope on Anderson Mesa,
    Arizona. These observations were collected as part of a systematic
    program in which frequent speckle observations of nearby binary
    systems were to be used to attempt the detection of unseen companions
    through the analysis of residual motions in wide, visual binaries.
    This is the first of several papers in which these observations are
    presented and discussed.</para>
