Designed for fans of "hogs" (and we're not talking about farm animals here), the 2001 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCrew is a limited-edition model of the F-150 SuperCrew. It features unique equipment that pays homage to the world's most well-known motorcycle manufacturer. This truck is actually the second co-branding effort between Ford and Harley-Davidson. The first truck in the series was the 2000 Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCab pickup. Its production of 8,000 units quickly sold out. We expect the 2001 Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCrew to sell just as well. It is offered in "any color you want, as long as it's black," and rides on a 139-inch wheelbase that has been lowered 1 inch. It comes equipped with a 260-horsepower 5.4-liter V8 engine powering huge 20x9-inch five-spoke cast chromed aluminum wheels and P275/45R20 Goodyear Eagle GTII tires. A tuned exhaust system features a single inlet/dual outlet muffler with "slash cut" exhaust tips. The truck is accented with a gray and "Harley-Davidson" orange stripe on the lower rocker panels. Inside, the Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCrew is trimmed with black leather and chrome accessories, including unique-looking gauges, four black leather-trimmed captains chairs with dual center consoles, and special Harley-Davidson metal nameplates sprinkled about the cabin. The rest of the truck is standard F-150 SuperCrew. Unlike the SuperCab, which has smaller hinged doors that swing out from the C-pillar, the SuperCrew actually has four full-size doors separated by a B-pillar on each side. Interior room is considerably more than what is found in a SuperCab. Despite the larger cabin, the F-150 SuperCrew is still the same overall length as the SuperCab model. The way Ford achieves this, however, is by fitting the SuperCrew with a cargo box that is about 1 foot shorter than a normal F-150 cargo box. Larger items (such as 4x8 sheets of plywood) will still fit between the wheel humps and can be carried with the tailgate lowered. An optional bed extender allows more flexibility when transporting large items such as lumber, cinder blocks or firewood. The tubular steel bed extender is a curved cage unit attaching to the rear of the pickup bed. With the tailgate lowered, the unit pivots from its stowed position within the box and locks into place extending the load floor to 7 feet. The Ford F-150 is the top-selling vehicle in America, so there's no reason to doubt that the Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCrew will attract Harley enthusiasts. Some of them might be put off by the smaller cargo box, but the advantage of four real doors shouldn't be ignored.
